Customer Reviews

Unusable - Returning for Refund I read the one star reviews, but didn t heed them. Don t make that mistake. These heads cut poorly, and pull beard hair to the point of being painful. I tried to oil these like one other poster recommended, which did help the beard pulling (the whole oil-is-slick thing), but did absolutely nothing to improve the shave. After rubbing my face nearly raw with these heads, the best I could get was a 5-oclock shadow shave. After three days of pain hoping for some noticeable improvement (textbook definition of insanity) I re-installed my two year old heads and got a dramatically better shave. These heads are either counterfeit or Norelco quality is now garbage. I m returning these to Amazon for a refund, and will try heads directly from Norelco.FYI, I ve been using an electric razor for 15 years, so this isn t just a newby disgruntled with how electric razors shave. 1Works great! Make sure you're buying from AMAZON and not a SKETCHY RESELLER I hadn't replaced my Norelco blades for at least a couple of years, and it was showing. After reading some of the recent reviews, it seemed that either Norelco completely changed the design for the worse, or there was a surge of counterfeit blades being sold. Luckily, those same reviews included photos comparing the sub-par blades to the high-quality ones.I decided to give it a shot, making sure that I bought it directly from Amazon (instead of a third-party reseller within Amazon).I'm happy to share that I received the original high-quality Norelco blades as of November, 2018. The cut is close and smooth (incredibly smoother than my 2-year old), and the shaver feels new again!I included photos comparing my old blades to the new ones, and you can see that it's exactly the same design. It appears that the other reviews that got sub-par blades received counterfeit blades. You can view the other images to see what the counterfeit ones look like. Be sure to order directly from Amazon, and compare your replacement blades to make sure you're getting the real deal! 5Guess it's time to look for a new razor. After two years (didn't realize it had been that long), I figured it was time for new heads for the 10 year old razor. I had just had surgery on my nose, so the area under it was very sensitive to the dull razor. So, I ordered these and when they arrived, put them in and tried them out. To my surprise, they didn't seem to be any sharper than the old heads. In fact, they seemed duller. I thought, maybe they just needed a few days to work in, so kept using them for a week. (Of course, by then, all the packaging was long gone in the trash.). Nope, still dull. Just for comparison, I put the old heads back in, and they were indeed much sharper. So, since I threw away all the packaging, I now have 2 sets of dull heads. Just one is shiny and new.So, if this is what "new" heads are like, I guess it's time to look for a new razor, despite the fact that this one still works well (battery lasts a month, runs well, etc).Update 21/28/18:And I certainly wish I had read the reviews here before buying. But I didn't think I needed to, having bought heads on Amazon several times before. Well, fool me once...Some other reviewers have suggested buying directly from Norelco, but a quick look at their site shows the same negative reviews over the last year or two, so apparently they changed suppliers? Whatever the case, if you buy these, don't expect the same shave you have been getting. 1other reviewers are right, not as sharp as original When you own a shaver, you do need to replace the heads. You notice that it takes more passes to cut the same hairs. So mine was supplied by Norelco through Amazon, so not third party, so not fake. It had the double blades. But I agree that the metal used in these replacement heads isn't as sharp. It cuts better than my worn out blades, but it is not as sharp as the blades supplied with the shaver. You can feel the blades not cutting as smooth on very coarse hairs. The original blades would cut smoothly. But this is all we have short of buying a new shaver, and they cut better than worn out blades. So they do work. Too bad the quality has gone down. 4Cut my face I've been using Norelco shavers for decades but the replacement heads keep getting worse and worse over time. They are not sharp and do not last like they did before. This set cut my face up and I was bleeding so I sent them back. I will give Norelco another try. If they send me more garbage heads, I will be changing brands permanently. 1Beware I've had my 8150 XL since the 90s. The thing has been amazing. I've never even replaced the batteries! I have replaced the heads every year though. I've never had any problems until this latest version from Amazon. I bought them in December but didn't need to replace them until a few weeks ago. So confident was I that I tossed the old heads. Big mistake. These latest heads are horrible. I regret not reading the latest reviews (but why would I... they've always been just fine) Obviously, others have noticed the same thing. They simply don't cut. It took me twice as long to shave and still never got close to my old blades. So I took the advice of others and ordered directly from Philips Norelco. I tried them this morning and life is good once again. They cut as well as the previous heads I've purchased. The only difference I noticed is that the new heads are a slightly darker color than the ones I purchased from Amazon.I don't know about a change in design or if Amazon is selling knock-offs. I do know that the factory-purchased heads are the real deal... or at least they cut like those of old. And for the record, I did go check my last Amazon order and noticed it was sold by MCEBAQIRAONG. It seems they aren't around any longer because of a bad reputation. All the previous heads were sold by Amazon. So perhaps that's the issue. If I get brave and order from Amazon again, I'll put them in right away so that I can send them back if they don't work.On a side note, I decided to upgrade to the 8950 shaver three years ago. That razor cuts worse than these old blades. I went back to my old trusty 8150. 1Don't Waste Your Money! Don't waste your money on these. As many others have said, they are NO GOOD. They sound different and you have to scrub the razor over your face many times to get these to cut what the old ones would cut in a single pass. My old blades were about 1.5 years old; I dug them out of the trash and put them back on my razor. The old ones, even this used, are way better than these new ones.So I called Norelco to ask if they had a production problem or something that caused me to get bad blades. Their answer? "We don't recommend you buy them from Amazon because the blades sit in their warehouse too long." Yes, these parts that are made of all metal supposedly have a short shelf life. What nonsense. She finally admitted that the design of the blades has changed over time. I pointed out to her that selling me bad blades to force me to buy a new razor was only going to guarantee that it wouldn't be a Norelco next time. 1Buy newer SH30 heads >UPDATE< UPDATE> Seems I was misinformed by Philips customer service. My now-discontinued 8240XL is *not* an "8000 Series" razor. At a local retailer I have bought SH30 heads that appear to be the same as HQ9 heads. At least they'll be easier to return if defective, or not right. 1Bad batch. Pulled facial hair. This product was HORRIBLE! I can say this because I have used this exact product multiple times for my electric trimmer. They are usually awesome and never have any problems with them, execpt now. Today I opened my new razor heads. Put them on and began to shave. I expected a smpoth sahve like all the other times, but not this time. This time, instead of cutting my facial hair it RIPPED OUT my facial hair. It isn't long. Only from last night. But man oh man, I couldn't go 3 seconds without some hair being pulled out of my face. I tried my mustache and after the firts 3 hairs were pulled out, I quit. I'm not sure why this one was so horrible, but I am going to return or at least ask for a refund. I bout them to shave my face. I can't do that if it actually is pulling all my facial hair out instead. 1I would like to give this product a 0 star I have used this replacement for 5 mo and no longer shaves without pulling and requiring several passes to get a half decent shave. Waiting while making my mind about buying a Braun, I put back my original blades, used for well over a year, and got a very decent shave in half the time and without pulling hairs!!!!I would like to give this product a 0 star. 1
