Good Quality BrushThe Pure Badger Shaving Brush is visibly appealing with its shiny black handle finish. The bristles indeed feel like badger hair, but are a bit stiff for now. I expect the bristles will relax as time wears on as have other badger hair brushes I have used in the past. The brush fits in my present brush stand which is a plus.So far, the hairs of the brush do not seem to be coming out at a rate greater than other brushes. The construction of the hair/handle joining process has probably made this possible. All brushes lose some hairs initially, but as I said previously, these come out at a much slower rate than other brushes.I use a soap mug. The bristles hold a good amount of soap and feels good when applying it to my face. The soap lathers well and consistently. Because I shave every other day, my stubble growth is somewhat long by the second day. The brush and soap aids softening of the stubble in fairly quick order giving me a clean shave. There are other more expensive brushes on the market with a couple less expensive than this brush. The least expensive have turned out to be of lower quality in my experience. This brush is in the lower middle of the pack cost-wise, so I decided to give it a try. I have not been disappointed with my choice. Of course, shaving brushes will wear out through loss and weakening of bristles. So far, this brush has retained hairs at a better rate than other brushes I have owned.5It's a Great Brush This is an outstanding shaving brush; well recommended. Buy it and don't look back.Until recently, I had worn a beard for the preceding 35 years and forgot how to blade shave. I had to relearn how. Worked out well. But as you read "How To Be A Manly Man" articles on the web, you will begin to see that much of the shaving advice amounts to hipsters fetishisticly one-upping each other. Everything is most important! You must use shaving soap "offered" in London by Sir Fotheringgay-Booth-Tarkington of Regent Street or you will get an inferior shave and everyone will know you are insufficiently hip! There are numerous blade fan-boys each of which insists that some blades are just "too sharp" and MUST be avoided for the best shave! The really hip struggle to get the most shaves from a blade and keep track of the cost. These can be identified by the raw flesh on their chins. Here is the unhip, old Texas curmudgeon's advice: Follow the instructions that came with your first Gillette razor. Lacking that little pamphlet, wash your face, leave it wet, firmly brush lather on, let it soften the beard, shave it off in short strokes, keeping the razor wet. Simple. 5This brush was great for a little while This brush was great for a little while. It smelled kind of badgery when I first got it, but that went away after about a month when shaving every other day. It's been working well for about 6 months, but now every time I use it, at least 20 hairs come out. They feel weird on my face under the shave soap I use and it makes shaving not so much fun.I always rinse it and hang it on a holder when I'm finished, so I'm taking care of it.I've seen old shave brushes in thrift stores and on eBay from decades ago that are still intact. 6 months should not be the life of this product. 1Small size Got this inexpensive brush for travel (I've left them behind in hotel rooms in the past). It looks like it will do the job. But beware the handle is small and there's about 1/2 the bristles in my much more expensive Edwin Jarrer brush.Update: After 15 shaves brush is holding up well, no bristle lose. I get 1/2 the lather then I do with my other brush, but still plenty for a good shave, and just as dense a lather. The bristles seem a little prickly, but maybe I have tender skin. I'll be glad to get back to my other brush for a more luxurious shave expience when I finish traveling.P.S. the best soap for abundant lather I've found is Dove Bar for sensitive skin. No colors, no perfumes. Beats any of the speciality shave soaps I've tried over the decades and for a fraction of the cost. 4Excellent so far. I bought this brush to replace a different brand I have had for many years. I forgot how nice a new brush feels and works. I have used this about a week and, so far, very little problems with shedding. It really works up a better lather than the old brush and works well with my shave soap. I do not use a cup, but place the creme directly on the tip of the brush and work it into the brush and my beard at the same time. I have noticed fewer nicks than before (actually none) and that is welcomed. 5Love this shaving brush and love the price Love this shaving brush and love the price. I have to say that I'm a beginner to the art of wet shaving. I only started a couple of months ago and used regular ol' shaving cream. I read about the value of using a good shaving brush to lather on the shaving cream. When I just used my hand, it was clumpy and not evenly applied. As I used this shaving brush, it applied the shaving cream very evenly. The razor just glided on my skin! I would recommend getting a stand so that the brush can dry. Don't go the retail store and pay a hefty price. If all you need is a decent shaving brush, this should fit the bill. There are many, many extremely expensive shaving brushes out there, and I'm sure that they work well. I'm just a newbie, and this one has worked out well. 5Hubby loved this! My husband is very particular about his shaving instruments. When he complained his shaving brush needed replacing, I knew this was going to create a challenge for me to find a new one that would fit and feel like his 20+ year old shaving brush. I searched several non-Amazon sites for comparable product selection and price. Once I did that and had a feel for selection and value, I turned to Amazon and, once again, was not disappointed. This 100% pure badger shaving brush turned out to be the perfect new shaving brush for my husband. He absolutely loved it. Thank you Amazon, and your partners, for making my day by providing my husband with a product that made it easy for him to say goodbye to a shaving brush that was way past its prime! 5Very Good Shave Brush So far, this product holds up better than other brushes that I've bought. Most of the other brushes will start shedding after the first use. From what I've read this is normal and the shedding eventually stops. Unfortunately, with most brushes they continue to shed and it never stops. With the Perfecto shaving brush I haven't had this problem. In the time I've been using it, It hasn't shed a hair. I would suggest that to extend the life of your brush, when drying it you should hang the brush on a stand allowing the brush to air dry (as opposed to laying it on it's side).I would definitely recommend buying a Perfecto brush. 5Perfection!Long ago I started occasionally shaving with shave soaps, but I hand lathered (i.e. I did not get much of a lather at all). It worked fine because for the past 25 years I've either had a beard or a goatee and my cheeks are pretty tough. However, I always wanted to try the brush experience: 1) I wanted the true experience of using shave soap, and 2) I have memories of visiting my maternal grandfather's house (he was born in 1903) and he always had a mug and shaving brush on his bathroom sink and I thought it was a very interesting idea. About 6 weeks ago, I started shaving my entire beard again (too much gray). After 25 years of having a beard or goatee, I found that the little spot under my nose, and the soft, fleshy spot under my lower lip and above my chin would get very sore and red when shaving. I decided it was time to do something and started my research. Now, I use a pre-shave oil, a brush, and a good shave soap or cream (TOBS) and find that the redness and irritation go away almost completely. For anyone considering a more traditional shave, I can't recommend it enough. That said, what about this brush? Is it any good? While I have only had it for about 3 weeks, I am quite happy with it. I also bought the Miusco 100% Pure Badger Hair Shaving Brush and Luxury Stand Shaving Set, Dark Chrome Stand (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G2W5N9M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) at about the same time so I can compare it to another brush. I figured I'd alternate the Perfecto and Miusco brushes and give each one a day to dry out and extend their lifespan (I hadn't yet done any research on the longevity of shaving brushes- had I done so I might have still bought a 2nd brush but went with a silvertip, or boar, or synthetic for the 2nd brush for a slightly different experience). Compared to the Perfecto I am very disappointed in the Miusco. The Perfecto may have lost one or two hairs the first time I used it (apparently common with badger brushes), but that ended quickly, something I can't say with the Miusco. The look and feel of the Perfecto just seem to be decidedly higher quality than the Miusco, despite both being budget friendly brushes. It may be my imagination, but I even think the Perfecto makes lathering my soaps easier than the Miusco.Overall, I rate this Perfecto brush highly. It makes it easy to lather, it is comfortable on the face, it doesn't shed for very long at all, and the feel and balance in the hand are just right. To top it off, the two-tone natural badger hair, silver ring, and semi-gloss black finish make for a beautiful brush that looks great on my bathroom sink. This brush is well made, it makes for an extremely comfortable shave (especially when paired with a proper prep), and as an added bonus, I feel a little closer to my grandfather who died when I was 11 every time I use it. I'm very happy with this purchase!5Perfecto Shaving BrushI m an enthusiast of wet shaving and use a double edge (DE) safety razor daily and a straight razor when time permits. Recently, one of my work horse brushes (a super badger) fell apart after 10 years of use. This brush is not that brush, but in fairness it is not intended to be (and it s priced 70% less). As such, I think it is unfair to rate it against high end brushes and this review will comment on this brush, its performance and value. The design is quite traditional; it looks nice and is well balanced. While slightly stiffer than one might expect, I find that it sets the beard up better than I would have imagined as a result. I soak mine in hot water for a few minutes before I begin and it works well. The lather it produces is nice and thick (better than any boar s hair brush on the market). Once done, the brush washes out quite easily with running water. Periodically, I notice a slight odor, but using a good soap, rinsing it well and making sure it dries seem to alleviate it.I ve only used the brush for a week, so it is premature to comment on durability. Shedding has been as expected (but not more) and I suspect that the brushes that fell apart were left to dry standing up (brush up) rather than hanging down. If you prefer not to buy a stand for it, I recommend using a rubber band around the base and finding something to hang it on. Water seeping into the base all day will surely cause failure even in a $100+ brush.Overall, this is a great brush for the price. I highly recommend using shave soaps rather than canned shaving creams that are filled with products to get them to spray out of the can without clogging (i.e. non-lubricant ingredients) where the soaps are all about the lather s performance. If you ve been thinking about getting a brush, I highly recommend this one for the money. It s a nominal investment for an item that performs so well.5Quality Shaving Brush - Attractive PriceThis shaving brush is working very well for me. When I use it, I hold it under hot water until the brush heats up. THen I apply the shaving soap to the brush, in this case I used Proraso Shaving Soap. This brush holds an ample amount of soap to prepare my entire face for a nice shave. The brush remained hot while I was applying the soap. The bristles are slightly stiffer than those on my last brush, but they work very well and I expect they will be durable. Only two bristles came out of the brush during my first couple of shaves then no more bristles came out. This is to be expected. When my shave is done, I rinse the brush under lukewarm water and hold it downward, squeeze the bristles to remove the water, and give it a final shake and then hang it with the bristles down. Only time will tell how well this brush performs long term. I expect it to last a long time5Review updated to 5 stars! I bought this brush because of all the great reviews, #1 best seller and all. Wow did I get fooled. Which really surprised me since so many of the reviews were written by fellow experienced wet shavers. Maybe I got "The One" brush that slipped through quality control. (Or slipped the knot) Either way it's not what I expected . I almost ordered the wood handled Perfecto brush for 5 bucks more but that "#1 best seller" banner caught me.... Oh well, lesson learned. I hope the next customer has better luck than I did.*****UPDATE 06/16/16: After this review I was contacted by Jessica at PopShop. She assured me that I had indeed received a brush that slipped through quality control. She was Absolutely certain of it! So certain that she convinced me (which isn't an easy thing to do) to try another Perfecto brush. I admit I was skeptical whether or not I was going to get the "great brush" she described but to my pleasant surprise I did in fact receive one of, if not The best "pure badger" brushes I have come across in over 4 decades of wet shaving. For incredible customer service and a good product. Thanks Jessica for caring about your customers. I'd give you 10 stars if I could! 5Very cheaply made Wasn't expecting a whole lot from this brush given its price point. However, I do expect products to perform and not fall apart within weeks of ordering. I ordered several months ago and have consistently used this brush. Even to this day the hairs are still falling out (expected for the break in period but not months into use). The black paint/plastic on the handle is peeling off at a rapid rate. I do not recommend this brush. Perhaps I got a bad one but even so, still haven't figured out how to reach the manufacturer to see if they will remedy. (Before leaving this review I tried to so see if I can reach out to the company to see if they could remedy my problem but everything redirected me back to Amazon.) 1Much better, much softer My second shave brush. I've been using a vulfix for 7 or 8 years, and finally decided to keep it as part of a dedicated travel kit, and to look for a new "at-home" brush. Seems well made, I haven't noticed any serious shedding that some have mentioned. Also one note: I remember when I first started wet-shaving, I read a lot of info on Badger and Blade, and one of the things I was told is that you should occasionally wash your brush with regular hair shampoo. This brush definitely needed it right away. I tried one lather before washing and it was very discolored and funky, but the shampoo got rid of all the gunk and the bristles felt *great* after the wash. Much better, much softer. So definitely recommend a good washing. 5So far so good! I've been using this badger brush for almost ...So far so good! I've been using this badger brush for almost a month, and it's working well. I haven't noticed more than a couple of hairs fall out since using it. As for the smell that some people complain of, I only noticed a slight gamy smell for the first week. Now I can't smell anything but my shave soap. This brush lathers well when wet (not just slightly moist). I think it is definitely worth the price, and honestly can't see myself spending $60 or more on a different brush once I've become more of an expert in wet shaving since some people have suggested this is a good "starter" brush. I'm sure those expensive ones are nice, but this one gets the job done well and helps curb the cost of shaving, which is why I originally decided to start using a safety razor over disposable Gilletes and Schicks.5
