Customer Reviews

the heavy duty version is much thicker but still isn't hard to get out of the can and liquefied pretty easy once you rub it in yI've bought both of the beard balm and here's deal. Of the two beard balms honest Amish sells I prefer this one. Here are the differences, the heavy duty version is much thicker but still isn't hard to get out of the can and liquefied pretty easy once you rub it in your hands. Second, the heavy duty has a much higher hold (as expected) and the scent is less strong. It's still a pretty manly smell but not so over powering like the regular version. And last is the workabilty, it's works into your beard pretty darn well and conditions to me better than the original version which is awesome I use a wood comb to work everything in and get the fly away hairs with the heavy duty version through but with the original version I think unless your beard is really long then you could rub it with your hands and forget about if because it works into your beard So easily. So if you're looking for a shinier, less hold, super easy buttery smooth application, and don't have a stupid thick beard then go with the original. But if you have a thicker beard with fly away hairs and want more conditioning with not too much shine then definitely go with the heavy duty, but luckily I didn't turn into an Amish person using either of these products so there both a solid choice to me. 5This is probably the best beard balm I've tried -- though it contains tree nut butters.I really liked this beard balm. The texture is excellent, and it gives great hold without feeling waxy. I'm a bit sensitive to scents, but the scent of this stuff is pretty good and not at all objectionable. I was really dismayed to learn that it includes nut butters, because my son is allergic to tree nuts. Though he did not have a reaction, I cannot use it. Just be aware that this product includes allergens, which i did not see on the product listing, either in the description, or anywhere in the listing. I am not saying anything bad about this product, and I even gave it top ratings. If you and your family does not have a problem with nut allergies, then you will definitely love this balm. 5Everything you need to knowScent: It has a citrus scent with a spicy under-note. The scent is really not strong at all. I use the regular Beard Balm and lots of reviewers complain about that scent. I really like them both. This scent is weaker and I notice it on me far less than the regular Beard Balm. I also use a lot of this stuff and I find the scent fades away quickly. (Update 3/31/15: I got another tin of this this past Christmas and it seems to me that H.A. has actually toned the scent down a little. The ingredient list on my new tin changed slightly from what it says on my old tin. I was kinda sad about that because I LOVE the scent of this stuff and didn't consider it to be that strong in the first place. So, there you have it. If you want less scent, their new formulation has less scent.)Hold: It's not bad. I use quite a bit--mostly for the conditioning--and I think it holds up pretty well even after my 9 or 10 hour work days. It is really not a sculpting type of wax. Think of this as being more like a mousse or pomade than a firm-hold hair gel.Conditioning: It's been every bit as good as the regular Beard Balm at softening, thickening, and keeping my beard itch and flake free. It's good stuff. Makes me wonder what I was doing growing beards without a conditioning oil.Is it greasy? Well, it's a conditioning oil. It has a bunch of different oils in it. If you've used a beard oil before, you know what you're in for. If you're wary, just use small amounts. With a small amount, your beard should soak it up quickly and you'll hardly notice anything at all.How do you use it? As recommended, I "melt" it in my hand and apply it to a damp beard. At this point, I do a "gentle" styling with my comb and wait about 10 to 20 minutes for my beard to dry. Once my beard is totally dry, I'll get out the comb or a "barrel" brush and do a more aggressive shaping and fluffing. At this point, the wax has set pretty well so you can move your beard around more.Should I buy the bigger tin? If you have a big beard, you aren't shaving it any time soon, and you want lots of conditioning and lots of hold--yes. Otherwise, this smaller tin will last you two months or so--with everyday use--depending on how much you use each day. I use the large tin and even using larger amounts it seems to last a long long time.Should I get the regular balm instead? If you aren't concerned about shaping your beard and you want good conditioning--yes.Is it worth the price? Yes. Shipping was really fast. The tin is nice and sturdy. Combine this with a good hair conditioner for the shower and you'll love the results. Even if I only got, let's say, one month of use out of a tin, I'd still say that it's worth it. It really makes a big difference compared to growing a beard without it. 5Great Product for the New Beards or the Full Grown Beards.Scent: It has a citrus scent with a spicy under-note. Shipping was really fast. l did see its available at Wal Marts, but l still purchased from Amazon. The tin is nice and sturdy. Combine this with a good hair conditioner for the shower and you'll love the results. Even if I only got, let's say, one month of use out of a tin, I'd still say that it's worth it. It really makes a big difference compared to growing a beard without it. 5Not what it pretends to beThe original balm isn't quite all it's cracked up to be either. It's great, but doesn't hold stray hairs in place. I decided to give this a shot, thinking it would solve the only issue the original had. This is certainly a tougher substance, the first time I tried it I thought it was wet sand. It takes a while to melt into being of any use. Unfortunately it doesn't hold any stronger than the original. The worst part, is unlike the original, this stuff stinks really, really, really bad. I would absolutely fire whoever came up with the idea to use this scent. 1Life changingBefore I started using Honest Amish beard balm my life was sad and lonely. Now it's rich and beautiful. What a difference a smooth shiny beard makes. One day people looked at me wondering where the cup was so they could toss a few coins in it for me, mom's were grabbing their kids arms, pulling them to the other side of the street and making sure they didn't make eye contact. After using Honest Amish I now get the respect that usually reserved for cable TV installers. Thanks Honest Amish! 5My Beard is Softer than a Kitten! In a word, fantastic! I've had a week or so to try out this beard balm and it's been a great addition to my beard care regimen. For reference, I have been growing my beard for about 12 - 15 weeks and have attained what I would call medium length and good fullness. My beard is curly in some spots and straight in others, and becomes very dry without regular care. To address some common questions I've seen:1. The smell of this product is minimal. It smells natural in the tin and leaves no scent that I can detect shortly after applying to my beard. It also applies clear and leaves no visual evidence of its application.2. My beard has become extremely soft. I apply this in the morning while my beard is still damp (but not very wet) from the shower. I massage it in with my fingers and then ensure good coverage with a thorough brushing using a boar's bristle brush. I enjoy beard oil, but on its own it doesn't soften my beard as well as this balm. I apply beard oil a couple of times a week after an evening shower.3. This product will allow you to shape your beard a bit better and will tame your strays a bit, but it's not extremely waxy. If you're looking for a true "hold," you might want to seek out a waxier balm. Personally I'm happy with the results so far.4. The size of the product seems good for the price. I think this will last me two months with near daily application.I can't comment on HA's non-heavy duty beard balm, but I'm glad I opted for the heavy duty stuff. My beard has never been happier. 5Great Product for a Thick "Wavy" hair beardI have a thick beard with wavy hair. The hair on my head is very wavy and even curly if I let it grow long so the Heavy Duty Beard Balm is perfect for me. When it arrived it was somewhat beaded but the instructions talk about this and as long as you rub it on your hands for a bit you'll have no issues. I highly recommend this if you have thick and wavy hair. How I review:When I review a product said product automatically starts with four stars as I rarely will purchase anything below four stars. I then add and/subtract stars based on certain criteria as listed below.1. If an item is exactly what I expected and nothing more it will receive a four star rating2. If an item surpasses my expectations it will gain a star (5 Stars)3. If an item goes slightly below my expectations it will lose a star (3 Stars)4. If the instructions for the product (if needed) are poorly written (hard to understand due to language issues or grammar) or just too hard to follow it will lose a star no matter if the product meets or exceed my expectations5. If a product is significantly below my expectations I will deduct two stars6. It will be rare that I would give a product one star since I buy mostly items that have a 4+ rating but in rare instances there may be a good reason that even a four star product gets a one star rating from me. It could be because of customer service issues from the company but whatever the case is I will clearly explain my reason for giving a product only one star 4I now know how Chuck Norris feelsI bought Heavy Duty and used it regularly until I finished the tin. I thought, "meh, not too shabby." I then, for no real reason, stopped using anything for a couple months. I started noticing my beard felt and looked dry. I also noticed my strength and confidence was becoming depleted. It took me like 7 extra swings to take down a tree with the side of my hand without this stuff. It wasn't until I stopped using it that I realized how s***ty a beard can look without taking care of it. I just ordered another tin and snapped back into reality. I can't wait to have my life rejuvenated and my strength come back as a result of a healthy, manly beard. Imagine being a rustic bad ass....that's what this stuff smells like. Especially when the sunset hits it the right way.....panty dropper. 5Amish don't lie.Best beard balm I've used so far. Works best when beard is wet before application 5
