Finally! No razor burn! I ve owned this razor for several months now, and write this with some experience behind me. I ve only written a handful of reviews on here over many many years, and only for products I feel profoundly strong about.I ve tried every shaving option under the sun. Electric, single blade, triple blade, 5 blade, safety razor, gel, cream, conditioner, dry, wet, hot, cold, with aftershave, without aftershave, with the grain, against the grain, etc... I must have the world s most sensitive skin because I ALWAYS end up with red blotches of razor burn all over the face. For 20+ years, I ve always had to resort back to using a trimmer to cut my beard back to a stubble shadow.Every few years, I start looking for a new angle on achieveing a clean shave, expecting it will end up the same as all the rest. Somewhere my most recent search, I started reading about this Braun razor. It s expensive, so I was hesitant to give it a shot. Then, I reasoned, I ve already spent hundreds and hundreds exploring every other avenue, so what s a couple hundred more?I m really excited to say, this is the first time in my life I ve been able to get a clean shave without razor burn. As dumb as it sounds, It s honestly been life changing for me. I ve even tried other electric shavers (3 others, and not all cheap ones), and they didn t help. This is the only one.It may only be a solution for me, but I 100% recommend giving this razor a try if your looking for a solution to shaving with super sensitive skin. 5Close shave but! First let me say that I have been shaving over 40 years with a safety razor but last year I decided to switch to an electric shaver. After looking at countless reviews on line and reviews posted here, I decided to buy this 9290cc. I have now been using it for 14 months and decided it was time to write my own review. I must admit that I get a close shave but that is going over and over the same spots at least 20 times. It takes me 10 minutes or longer to shave and after all that, I still need to finish up my neck and under my chin with a safety razor. I think I made a terrible mistake by buying this rather than the Panasonic that I was considering, Don't make the same mistake. 1This is the best electric razor This is the third Braun electric razor I ve owned since 2002 (thanks, Amazon order history). The last one was a Series 7 (790cc) that would no longer hold a charge. I was on the fence about buying this razor because of the mixed reviews but I m so glad I did. This shaves so much better than either of my previous two razors there s no comparison. Not only did this razor shave 50% off the time I spend shaving it gives me a closer shave too. I didn t expect it to be such a large improvement over the Series 7. The cleaning cycle is much shorter too but the razor is just as clean.I don t know why there are mixed reviews for this razor, from the first stroke I could tell I was getting a much improved shave. I changed the cutting head regularly on my older razors and never got a shave like I did with this one. This razor is expensive but I m glad I spent the money on it. 5Plastic, overly-shiny finish looks much cheaper/flimsier than 7 series ... Plastic, overly-shiny finish looks much cheaper/flimsier than 7 series predecessor but the biggest complaint is how large the shaving surface is. Actually, the entire shaver is too large. It's far too wide, which makes shaving around a beard awkward. Plus the balance is off -- it just feels badly weighted/balanced in the hand. Definitely not worth the outrageous amount of money they are getting for it. I prefer the older, less costly 7 series. 1Very good shaver, but not an imperative upgrade to your 7 series I've owned the 7 series shaver for about 5 years. it still works fine and will remain my backup, but thought i'd try an upgrade to the 9 series since i caught it on a price drop. After about a week's use my conclusion is that it is a decent, but not necessary upgrade if you like your current 7 series. What i do like about the 9 is it is definitely the quieter of the two (which for someone who has a family and shaves at 5:45AM is a big deal). As others have said, even though it doesn't have the adjustable power settings of the 7 series, it feels more powerful in that for me it takes fewer passes to get my shaving done. Haven't tried wet shaving with it yet (my 7 series was a dry only model) so nothing to say on that until this weekend. And glad the cleaning station takes the same refills as the 7!Still does an excellent job (as the 7 did) on preventing razor bumps and ingrown hairs for me.So my conclusion is if you can catch it on a sale, or it is time to retire your 7 series, this is a great shaver. 4Crazy Overpriced, lousy shave Takes forever to shave with this. to get anything like a close shave you have to go back and forth, over and over, in six different directions and it still leaves noticeable stubble. It won't touch fine, longer hairs on the neck. I can get better, quicker shaves with dollar store disposable blades than the best this can do.I can't believe they think this thing is worth over $200. I feel royally shafted by this purchase. They must pay well for the reviews. 1The worse purchase ever I'm so disappointed with this purchase. I bought it on July 6th for my husband. Now, since 3 days ago the shaver is not working and has no warranty. So... Basically we threw $250.00 to the trash can! So upset! The battery is fully charged and it is locked, and it does not unlock by pressing the button. 1Bald Head Shaver My children gifted me a Braun Series 3 several years back and I was never really impressed by it. It was good for keeping stubble down on my head and neck, provided I use it every day. That was a task in of itself, because the shave time took longer than just lathering up my head and running a blade over it. However, I have sensitive skin and shaving daily would be a huge no, no for me. I would run multiple passes to get stubble down to acceptable standards. This would lead to mild razor burn and random ingrowns, ugh...the burden of curly hair.I've always been satisfied with disposable razors and likely will never give it up completely. But noticing as I get older, I'm developing more sensitivity to being shaved by razors. Whether my skin is changing or my hairs/pattern of growth is, couldn't say.Anyway, after what seemed like a month of researching what would be best. I sprung for a Skull Shaver. To keep this brief. Trash. I may as well took clippers that have been zero gapped and shaved my head with it. The shave was not even remotely razor close. RETURNEDMoved on to Panasonic LV9N-S, which I ended up buying for $270 shipped with a discount through another site. This electric shaver was amazingly pretty, though a little top heavy. Seriously, the shave was so close, I swore I did it with a straight razor. Unfortunately, it had a couple shortcomings. For me, it was really mediocre at flat lying hairs on my neck both front and the back of my kneck. It would drive me insane and I'd use my Andis slimpro to get them, then reshave the area to mow down the stubble. To make matters worse, using it with semi-light pressure still gave me razor burn. Really bad razor burn around the side of my head and sides of my neck. Sadly, I had to ship it back as I could not deal with the persistent painful razor burn.Ready to give up and stick to my normal routine of using Dorco blades (Pace 7). I decided to give the Braun Series 9 a try and while it's not as close as the Panasonic LV9N (arc5), it's close enough. Importantly, no razor burn and a way more comfortable shave. It catches almost all my flat lying hairs and I can go 2-3 days without shaving my head and worry about having to use clippers to get them shorter first before shaving. Impressive to say the least. If I didn't have sensitive skin, I would have kept the Panasonic. In fact, I think the version I got looked better with a smaller charging station. But the Braun Series 9 has been way more comfortable to use and most importantly, comfortable end results. In addition, my wife appreciates the sound of this electric razor more than the LV9N. Though it's still loud to me, the pitch is far less annoying. 4I was really excited to get this shaver as I've ... I was really excited to get this shaver as I've been using Norelco's for 40 years. I've bought many German based products (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) and have always experienced superb quality and reliability. This shaver fell apart nine months after purchase. I emailed Braun three weeks ago and no response. I'm actually going to toss it in the trash as I don't have to spend many hours to go through the hassle of sending it in to get fixed...my time is very limited. Using my old reliable Norelco... I actually have tow of them, both over 10 years old! DO NOT BUY THIER PRODUCTS, THIER QUALITY IS NOT THERE, AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS A LOT OF HELP. 1Series 9 vs 7. How grey is your beard? Waited a few months after purchase to write this. Bought this to replace a Series 7 after the base-to-shaver communication failed after about eight years. Big question for most purchasers is Series 9 or 7. Note that there are two "runs" of the 9. The 90xx is the original design that had some head failure issues. The 92XX is the newer design. There are still many 90xx being sold, especially from discount houses. I chose to go with the new design even though it was a few bucks more. Here are my observations using both.White beard hairs: 9 wins hands down. The 9 has an extra cutter in the middle of the head that is designed for stubborn white hairs that stick out an resist electric razors. If you look a photos, you will see that the 7 has one central cutter, while the 9 has two cutters, each with a different design.Trimmer: Depends. The 7 has a clipper, like a small barber's clipper that flips out from the side of the unit. The 9 has a small cutter that slide up above the main cutter and looks like a "personal groomer". The 7 is probably better at sideburns, but the 9 is better at everything else (especially "personal grooming" if you get my drift.Speed: 9 by a little. Speed is listed as a benefit, but I found it only a little faster.Sound: 9 is definitely quieter, but far from silent.Cleaning: First, buy the cleaning base with either. It is a system. Many troubleshooting FAQs involved undoing problems caused by never using the base and only cleaning manually. That said. the 9 base is bigger. It is also shiny black so it looks cool but shows dust more. The 9 dries with a fan rather than a heater. This means it supposedly dries faster, but it also means that you smell the alcohol in the cleaner solution more. Since I shave only once a day, I actually liked the 7 base better.Indicators: 7 wins. The 7 has an led "dial" with multiple levels of cleanliness on the handle. The 9 only has a "drop" symbol to indicate clean, but no sense of how dirty.Battery: Tie. Never had a problem with either. This is another reason to have the base. Lithium batteries like to stay fully charged. The base insure that. Expected battery life is 3-5 years. My 7 is still going strong after 8 (I kept it as a travel shaver).Bottom line: If you are at the age where white hair are cropping up in your beard, spend the extra for the 9. If you really hate the smell of alcohol in the morning, get the 7. Otherwise, it become a matter of aesthetics. The 7 gives you at least 90% of the performance of the 9 but for a lot fewer $. 5
