Best blades and best clippers for pros As a pro groomer, I only use Andis clippers and blade in my shop. I use the 7 especially for dogs that are severely matted. Andis has a nice guide to show you the blades recommended for certain breeds. Be sure to use their Blade Care and Cooling spray so you don't burn the pet. Blade Care will prolong the life of your blades. Remember the smaller the number of the blade, the longer the fur will be cut. Oil your blades after every use to prolong their life, and wipe the oil off each time before you begin to groom the dog.Clean fur cuts much better than dirty, oily fur. Be sure to comb out all the mats and tangles so your blade doesn't catch and hurt the pet. 5I would love to be contacted I litterly have 25 of these blades that are broken in the same spot . I ve used this brand for over 10 plus years and last year they break in the same spot . It has to be a manufacturer issue .I'm a professional groomer and I just can t explain it . I understand if you drop them that happens however as soon as you put a guard on the blade the tooth In the same spot on most of them break . I would love to be contacted. I m kinda upset ,that s over 500$ in blades . 1Not new, used with hair! This is crazy. I ordered new blades for our clippers so I can trim my dogs better. I ordered various sizes...And THIS is how the 7 blade came... Used, dirty & with dog hair!!! What the heck?! 1... clippers and blades used to be some of the best. Unfortunately among groomers like myself Andis clippers and blades used to be some of the best. Unfortunately among groomers like myself, who use them daily, talk is circulating about the quality going down lately. I have noticed the Andis blade teeth chip excessively on newer blades, compared to older blades and other brands. When I use guard combs on the 15 and 30 blades lately ( new combs so in good shape ) the teeth chip almost right away :(. Andis is losing a lot of their market due to this and the plastic blade drives they're now using for clippers. Very disappointing. 3Works great on a 60-pound Golden Doodle - BUT check blade when it arrives for sharpness! We have a very thick-furred (with a lot of curls when it gets long) 60-pound Golden Doodle. After paying for a nice but expensive grooming, we ended up ordering this blade for use with the Andis 22360 2-Speed Clipper. We'd had only poor experiences with attempts with other blades (those were older and may have been dull as well), but this works quite well for us.Keeping in mind that our experience is only with this dog (yours will/may be different), here are some things we've learned with a bit over a year's use and a dozen groomings with this clipper: always oil the blade more than you think you need to (I do this twice every grooming and it's never gotten too hot to use, ever), only groom when the dog's fur is at least relatively clean and completely dry, and never leave the shorter blade on the clipper when you put it away. Why? We only use the shorter blade (comes with the Andis 22360 2-Speed) for a few "must be shorter areas" and between the pads. The concern here is that if you leave the shorter blade on, eventually the next time you will start down the dog's back with the shorter blade accidentally, then have to blend it back (yeah, experience - guess I had to learn about "blending" sometime!). So this 3-3/4" blade goes back on the clipper at the end every time.I have helped a neighbor groom her Golden Doodle, and she ended up buying and successfully using these exact clipper and blades on her Golden Doodle as well. It is a bit scary the first time, but with some patience you'll get the hang of it and having your dog looking great (like others have said, don't sweat it too much, fur grows back). You also get to trim your dog to exactly how you'd like him or her to be, and can do "touch-ups" any time. You just need these and a pair of scissors.--- Updating Review April 2018 ---We have loved this blade for years. Today I (fortunately) took out a new blade I'd ordered and tried it. It could hardly be pulled through the dog's fur! Went back to the old blade - still works fine. The new blade is incredibly dull. Thanks to Amazon's generous return policy, it's being returned. Another new blade (hopefully correct and sharp this time) is on its way. These blades are great when they're right, but don't put a new one into a drawer to try later. Probably a good idea to pop any new order on right away and find out if it's functional in the first 30 days while you can still return it (check other reviews - ours wasn't the only dull blade reported).--- updated May, 2018 ---The latest (new) blade arrived sharp and is working well. It may just depend on dodging a bad lot of dull blades?? 3Does not cut I tried to use the blade to groom my small shih tzu dog. All of my other andis blades have been excellent products but this blade is dull and does not cut her hair. I have tried the blade twice since buying it with poor results each time and had to resort to my old blades. I should have returned the blade but didn't go to the trouble. It was packaged like a new product but can't help but wonder if it was used. 1Sorry I waited so long to get the 3- FC blade Fear kept me from getting the 3- FC blade. I have an Andis two speed clipper, ProClip Super 2-Speed Detachable Blade Clipper, Professional Animal Grooming, AGC2 (22360) which came with the size 10 blade that I never use. Instead, I purchased a size 40 blade and two sets of snap-on combs, both large and small sizes.I think that I misjudged how close this blade would come to my Bichon Frise s skin, based upon the angles of the size 10 and the size 40. Since I am an amateur groomer, my first concern has always been not to cause any injury to my dog. I always envied the plush look that some people were able to give a Bichon s coat and I was never able to achieve that look with the comb attachments or my inept scissoring.I finally decided to purchase this blade and, to my surprise, it is completely different than the ones that I have been using. The angle is very close to the comb attachment, so I felt comfortable using it. Since this is a finishing blade and I did not purchase the skip tooth blade, I first cut the hair with my usual 40 inch blade and comb. I then went over it with this 3-3/4FC blade. Wow, the difference really made me regret that I didn t purchase this blade years ago.My Bichon s hair is so even and plush, even along the sides where I usually have trouble blending the lengths. I am so enthusiastic about this particular blade and recommend it to anyone else on the fence about using a blade without comb attachments. 5Sheared sheep I know these are not labeled to shear sheep, but they work. I made it through my herd of 6 Shetland sheep and while they were just starting to bog down on sheep number 6, they were sharp enough and made it through. These do cut very close to the skin and I ended up cutting skin a few times due to this. I've used off brands that would only cut one full coat and even then not very close, before they quit and that was only in my poodle. I originally bought these to groom my standard poodle with, but I'm not sure I trust myself with them enough not to cut skin on him too. Nice sharp blade that got the job done. Each sheep took about 20 min and that's not bad at all considering these are not designed for that kind of heavy cutting. I will definitely buy a few more for future use in the flock as these are a lot easier to handle then the giant shearmasters that are for livestock. 4Wish I'd bought it years ago! I groom my Standard Poodle and I thought I could make do with the plastic snap-on combs instead of buying this blade. Why did I wait? I just used it today for the first time and it's worth buying!I tend to wait longer than I should between grooming because it's either an all-day event to bathe and groom my Poodle, or I pay a hundred bucks to have someone else do it. So by the time I get around to grooming, his hair is pretty long. I used to put a snap-on comb onto my clipper and take off as much hair as I could before the bath (why wash and dry all that hair I'm just going to cut off anyway, right?) But the plastic combs get caught up in the curly Poodle hair, or they fall off and I take a bigger chunk of hair than I had intended, or the comb gets all clogged up with hair and I have to take it off and clean it several times.Today I took off a wastebasket full of hair with this blade before the bath , then bathed and blow-dried the dog, then clipped his coat again with this blade to even it up and finish the groom. It worked great!I thought I'd have the problem of the blade not cutting the dog's hair, as other reviewers have mentioned, but once I made sure the blade was flat against the dogs skin, it cut just fine. It's also much easier to clip a dog when the coat has been blow-dried - I bought a "blaster" dog dryer (the Double K Challenge Air 2 speed) many years ago and it was definitely a good investment - it gets the curly Poodle hair nice and straight so I can clip and scissor his coat and make him look as nice as a professional groomer!I mentioned that I clip the dog before I bathe him - I have been told this is not good for the blades because the dirt in the coat will dull the blade, but I still do it anyway, first of all because I groom about 6 times a year, so the blades aren't doing a lot of cutting, and I haven't noticed they dull any faster than the blades I don't use on a dirty coat, and also because I don't mind sending my blades out to be sharpened. 5Bad Blade. Bought these blades for a back up to my other ones. My older ones are going on 3 years old and I clip with it reg. on 5 cocker spaniels. It's starting to get a bit worn so was wanting a new blade to have on hand so I can send my other one out to get sharpened. This blade cuts worse them my old blade. It is awful. Maybe I just got a bad one? But I won't take the risk of buying another one. 1
