Too thick: skin doesn t absorb it. Almost every time I buy an environment friendly product, I regret it. This product is no different. I purchased the sunscreen before our cruise trip since the tour company told us to bring a green sunscreen. Anyways... this brand was the recommended brand by the company. It is coral/reef friendly. And It smells nice. And those are the only good things I can say. This doesn t feel like sunscreen but more like a paint. Literally. You cannot quickly wear it and leave home. You need at least 10-15 min to rub it on your skin. It gets painful as you need to press hard on your skin to rub. And you look like a ghost. The product does not rub in! Moreover, when you get wet, it washes off. You leave a white residue behind you as you walk. I was at the cruise ship.took a shower . As I walked back to my recliner chair, I saw the white watery trail I left behind me. So embrassing. Since it washed off quickly, you restart the process of reapplying everytime you sweat or get wet. My clothes are all white now. Hopefully it will wash off. I will Never be using it again. And I would not recommend this product. 2Can't really recommend So I can't really recommend this product. I was asked by the company to review this honestly after using their product. To be fair, I have blond hair and fair skin person with no ability to tan. I only burn and I am very meticulous with applying sunscreen as skin cancer runs in my family and I probably apply more sunscreen then necessary. I also haven't had a sunburn in years due to my sunscreen habits. My husband is also red hair and fair skinned. We don't normally use biodegradable sunscreen but we were going to Cancun and was told we needed it to protect the coral reefs. It is very thick cream, so if you care about it leaving a white layer on your skin, the best way to apply is in small amounts at a time and rub it in. I didn't care about that and applied it all over in a slightly thicker layer. I am pale anyways and I really hate sunburns. The first time I used it was in the Caribbean sea for about one hour, I applied it all over my body however about 15 minutes after applying it to my face, it felt like my face was burning. I do have sensitive skin but my husband didn't seem to have an issue with it. I didn't seem to have the burning reaction to the rest of my body but at least we didn't get sunburned that day. The second day we spend about 8 hours at the Isle of Mujeres in the hot sun and sea. We applied the lotion at least 5 times and at the end of the day we were both burned on the shoulders, neck, and chest (where I applied more sunscreen then anywhere else). Needless to say, even though we had a lot of sunscreen left, we left it in Mexico because we won't be using this product again. The only pros is that it is environmentally friendly and smells good. 1all of the websites indicated that we could only use biodegradable sunscreen and this was a recommended brand. So I bought this in anticipation of a trip to Mexico where I planned to do a day long excursion snorkeling with sea turtles and in Cenotes. In reading about doing this ahead of time, all of the websites indicated that we could only use biodegradable sunscreen and this was a recommended brand. So, I only needed it for one day for three people and there is more than enough to go around. What others have said is true, it is difficult to rub in and leaves white streaks on your skin, so if you're someone who cares about that, plan to spend some time and use small amounts to rub it in thoroughly. I am someone who burns very easily and was afraid of just using the 30 spf, but it worked and I didn't get burned...more than what I was anyway using the traditional sunscreen. All in all, worked great, but I wouldn't use it for regular sunscreen just because of the white streaks and time consuming application. Smell was decent too. It does leave white marks on your swimming suit that I wasn't sure would come out, but after washing my suit, it did. 4Thick, but easy fix. Smells marvelous! Was thick and read other comments about it being hard to rub in, but there's an easy fix that increases the quantity as well: mixing with coconut oil.I simply melted some coconut oil in the microwave (coconut oil has natural spf as well). Then stirred in the sunscreen and whipped it with a fork. I preferred the consistency of soft (falling over) peaks when pulling the fork straight up out of the mix. I only mixed enough for a small bottle I keep in my purse and viola! Rubs in easy, moisturizes, and smells lovely! 5First time going to the caribbean where I made a ... First time going to the caribbean where I made a conscious choice to keep up on sunscreen application; First time I came home without blisters! Yes, this is a very thick product but if you apply it correctly you will not look white and you will still be able to tan instead of burn. Areas where I was more sensitive to burning I applied a thicker coat by adding two layers and a couple of days I left my nose white, lol. I also applied a little to my lips but my friend did not and ended up with sun blisters on their lips. 5TOTALY WORTH IT I have been searching for a reef safe sunblock that wasn't super expensive. Tropical Sands costs a little more, then once I started using it, I realized I didn't need nearly of much of this as I used of the old chemical-ridden-unhealthy-for-you-and-the-world stuff. In the end, I spent less last summer on sunblock for using this. It does take a little extra time to rub in, but it works great and my skin stayed very healthy all summer as well. I'll never go back. 5Better Alternative: Sun Shirts I am all for saving the Coral Reefs, but this is not a long term solution. It washes off in 20 minutes and leaves your skin died baby powder white until you take a shower with soap.If you truly care about the ocean and want to avoid sun burns, my recommendation is to wear a swim shirt. That is what I ended up doing after one day of use. 2Probably not getting again This one was really too thick for us. Hard to even get out of the bottle so we didn t really get to test it s effectiveness as much. Hard also to rub in so very ghostly. And because it was so thick, had to rub in harder which does not help when you have a little sand and salt in the area. It was my third choice of the four we tried. Bebo clear zinc ranked a lot higher and for the expense, we will likely never use this one again. It did work great at blocking the sun on my sunburned foot ( I had missed a spot) but I just left it as a thick white paste. 2Does exactly what it says. You will tan, not burn! Let me start by saying we are water people who live in FL. We are on our boat 2-3 days a week in the FL sun. We've tried many different sunscreens and this one did not disappoint. I got this because it is reef safe and we had a trip to the FL Keys planned. We spent 7 days in the blazing sun snorkeling, and not one of us burned. The product is pasty, not greasy. A little goes a long long way. After 5 people using it for 7 days, we still have 2/3 of a bottle left. It is high in zinc content, so you have to apply a little at a time and work it around. If you rub it in well, it does leave a white film on the skin. Once it dries, it doesn't seem to transfer to clothing. If you don't like the look of the white film, it isn't for you. We didn't care and were fairly generous - especially on our backs since we were snorkeling. If you are concerned about the way it looks, then this isn't for you. 5Goes on white sticky and dry! This lotion is thick and very hard to rub in. It leaves white streaks no matter what I tried to do. See picture. I previously used alba sunscreen and just decided to try something new but I'll be going back to what worked. 1
